While I have lived in this city ever since my being,

there are a great fragments of it that I have never visited, and I’m sure the city remains an equally vast and exhilarating mystery to many.

Writing this piece took me for a mental jog around the city. (Trust me, that’s all that I have moved since morning. :P)

I think some of the names of places in and around the city are absolutely interesting. Well, let me tell you, these are just my views, not my neighbor’s. ;)

Some names are simply auditorily pleasing:

Santacruz

Lamington Road

Nepean Sea Road

Altamount Road

Some sound like names on an anatomical chart:

Kanjurmarg

Titwala

Mankhurd

Some names would suit better a resort or a holiday destination:

Seawoods

Malabar Hill

Palm Beach

Pali Hills

Breach Candy

Flora Fountain

Some sound vaguely unsavory:

Chinchpokli

Sanpada

Nagpada

Some names are through and through racist:

Kala Ghoda

Goregaon

Some names paradoxically exude ‘humility’ by taking morally ‘high’ grounds:

Lower Parel

Some names sound more like the BEST Bus Numbers:

Saat Rasta

Chaar Rasta

Naupada

Saat Bangla

Some names are perhaps inspired by the commodity market:

Chandivali

Lokhandwala

Kandivali

Some names are simply ironic:

Kalyan

Some names don’t shy away from wearing their identity as a badge:

Chor Bazaar

And some sound like 2 animals got drunk one night and had wild sex:

Ghodbunder

P.S.: These is make take on the names of localities in the city, written purely for fun, with absolutely no intention of hurting the sentiments of residents of any locality.
